THE SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE

What is friendship, and love? How do we define them? Is there a difference between them? These are three of the questions that have always intrigued most people. Unfortunately, precise and concise answers to such a question cannot be given. The least that can be said about these two is that both complement each other and that friendship is a subset of love. However, there are some people belief that there are a few aspects that can differentiate them especially in terms of terms of peoples involved, playing with our emotion and also physical element.

Firstly, both of them are relationship that involved people. Both are relationship that across the age, race or even religion. Even so, in love, the relationship is among the opposite gender. While in friendship, the gender is not so important. In love also, individuals generally have only one partner as against friendship. You may have numerous people whom you could call friends or good friends but there exists only one person with whom you are in love.

Apart from that, both of friendship and love are playing with our emotion. Whether friendship or love, we will care for a person. We are always ready to help that person and sometimes we also will get pained if our friend or beloved is hurt. But, our heart beats will never increase in anticipation of meeting our friend. We will not lie awake at night thinking about our friend. We will not feel totally lost, if we don't meet we friend for a few days. We also will not have dreams in our eyes thinking about our friend. But in love, we will do all this and much more.

Last but not least, both friendship and love involve the physical element. Both have the direct contact of relationship. We can touch or hold our friend or beloved’s hand. We can hug them whether during sad or happy time. Nevertheless, friendship has its boundaries defined and no matter how close we are with our friend, it is devoid of physical intimacy. The individuals look at an emotional quotient, which also involves their sexual attachment with each other. Lover of husband and wife can have sexual relationship but in friendship it is absolutely cannot.

As a conclusion, there are some differences between love and friendship and at the same time, both also have similarities. They are intertwining and one leads into the other on many occasions especially in terms of peoples involved, playing with our emotion and also physical element. Even so, this is depending on the individual’s perception in integrating and defining both of this relationship.
